MAY, 2017

Yes, mission outreach is alive and well at First Congregational Church St. Clair.  Looking back at the past few months, I am proud of our accomplishments and excited for the future.  We are actively serving the people of St. Clair, St. Clair County, the United States and the planet Earth!

I was pleased to recommit to our annual Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM) pledge of $9000 for 2017.  We went over our last year’s total for One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) with $616 given.  Thank you so very much for your generosity and compassion.  So many wonderful things are happening with these monies.

By the time you read this, our May baskets will have been compiled and distributed to people from our church family to people at the Senior Housing Complex.  Multiple cards and calls are sent weekly from our Care Team led by Karen Galvin to send wishes of wellness, celebration and just plain thinking of you to people near and far.  Our check for $2000 was delivered to Harbor Impact Ministries and so appreciated by the staff and workers (and recipients) there.  Volunteers continue to go to Impact Day to help distribute the items that people want and need.  Visiting Kids in Distress (KIDS) on the third week of April, you would have seen many men and women from our congregation pitching in and helping with the changeover to get the spring/summer merchandise on the shelves and hangers.   That’s just our Springtime activities!

Coming up we are looking to start up our Portable Mini Pantry.  Watch for details!  Also, this summer we will be collecting items for the St. Clair Ecumenical Food Pantry and then arranging for workers to staff the Pantry during the month of September.  Micki Baden will be facilitating that project.  I would like some volunteers to help me investigate the viability of our hosting a free community dinner on a regular (monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly?) basis.  Also, we would like to start a Vial of Life distribution.  See me to offer your services or just to find out more.

This is the time to mark your calendars for October 29-November 4, 2018 to travel to Biloxi, Mississippi to work at Back Bay Mission.  We will be working with the Congregational Church in Romeo to provide workers in the home construction, food pantry and Micah Homeless Shelter in a very worthwhile and meaningful way.  Pastor Alana has agreed to facilitate the planning of this trip and the first step is to find out how many of you are interested.  We are asked to bring 20 people total, so think about it, pray about it and JUST DO IT!  You’ll be so happy you did!  Sign up to indicate your potential interest on the back table.

Thank you for being the hands, feet and mind of Christ,

Your Mission and Ministry Chair,

Mary Ann Martin
